Big Hill Adventure

Hello

Welcome to Big Hill Adventure

Big Hill Adventure is a travel and hiking blog focused on one simple idea: getting out into the world and walking through it.

Over the years I’ve found that the best way to experience a place is to go experience it up close and personal. It’s on foot. Hiking forces you to slow down, notice small details, and connect with landscapes and people in a way that faster travel never allows.

This blog will follow my adventures on long-distance trails and mountain routes around the world. Some trips are famous routes, others are lesser-known trails that I heard about interacting with other hikers and travelers. Each one offers a different experience, but they all share the same basic appeal: the challenge of moving through a landscape step by step.

You’ll find a mix of things here:

  • Trail reports and hiking experiences
  • Practical information on planning long hikes
  • Transportation tips for getting to trailheads
  • Gear lessons learned along the way
  • Food and resupply ideas
  • Observations about the places and people encountered along the route

Many of the hikes featured here connect to larger journeys I’ve taken. When I travel, I try to find some good trails to incorporate into my adventure. Some of these include Camino Portuguese, Camino Frances, hikes across the Scottish Highlands, and most recently the Atlas Mountains.

Some posts will focus on preparation and logistics. Others will simply share what it feels like to spend long days walking through mountains, deserts, forests, and small towns along the way.

The goal is not to present epic adventures for their own sake. It’s to show that long-distance hiking is accessible to anyone willing to put one foot in front of the other and commit to the journey.

If a post here inspires someone to take their first multi-day hike, explore a new country on foot, or start planning a long trail of their own, then Big Hill Adventure will have done its job.
